A woman from Dusun Pokapaka, Malimada village, has asucessfully saved some critical land by planting wooden trees such as sandalwood, lame, ello, mahogani, and johar. Kartina planted those nearly extinct endemic plants in her owen, without obtaining financial support from government. She didn’t get any guideline from the field officer such as the technical facilitator either. By planting sandalwood, candle nut and other hardwood trees, the soils under this trees are becoming vertile since the humus is getting thicker. This condition supported the growth of perennial plants sch as tuber plants and vegetables. Her pioneering effort inspired other people in her surroundings to plant more plants so the area were they live now becomes greener.
